The College has libraries in both the campuses and has an impressive collection of 29,700 books, and 171 journals, 130 CD’s and periodicals apart from the various Electronic Databases like EBSCO, JSTOR, QUESTIA to name a few. Our Computer Centres with a sizeable collection of computers, all in network (Internet and Intranet) cater to the needs of the learners.
BI-ANNUAL RESEARCH GUIDES’ MEET
The Centre organizes bi-annual meeting of all the guides in Social work, Management and Social Sciences to review the progress of the research scholars under their guidance and make necessary suggestions.
BI-ANNUAL RESEARCH SCHOLARS’ MEET
It is convened bi-annually under intimation to all the scholars who have received their approval from the University, to monitor their progress in research. The supervising guides are present during the Research Scholars’ meeting. The scholars nearing the submission of their thesis are given an opportunity to make a formal presentation of their research. It is compulsory for all the scholars to attend this meeting and those who are not in a position to attend these meetings are expected to intimate the Head of the Centre in writing.
SCHOLAR'S SCHEDULE
RESPONSIBILITIES OF RESEARCH SCHOLARS
Attendance: Full - time scholar should be present at the centre on all days from monday to saturday. Attendance register would be maintained at the principal’s office and the scholars have to mark their attendance forenoon and afternoon.
Leave: A full - time research scholar shall be eligible to avail a maximum of 30 days’ leave in a completed year in addition to 20 days’ of casual leave. In exceptional cases, the syndicate may grant two months of leave for a full time scholar for sufficient reasons. This shall be granted only twice during the research period of the scholar. However this period will not be considered for fellowship.
FULL TIME SCHOLARS:
The scholars are expected in normal course of events to complete their research within a minimum period of 3 years.
Have to teach one full paper during the entire period of their Registration for regular courses (MSW / MHRM / MBA). The Head of the Department concerned would allot the teaching assignments depending on the area of research.
Involve in research projects of the college depending upon the area of interest.
Participate in the research methodology course and SPSS orientation programme organized by the College.
Publish at-least two articles in a regional/ national/international journals co-authored by the guide.
Make paper presentations in the area of research at regional/ national/international conferences at the direction of the Head of the Center or the Supervising Guide.
PART-TIME RESEARCH SCHOLARS
Joining Report to be submitted through the guide as soon as he/she joins for research after obtaining registration from the University.
Teachers in affiliated colleges registered as part time research scholars - should take it as their responsibility to contact the guide and access the materials for research.
Those research scholars not in the head quarters of the guide should spend a period of at least three months at a stretch or in instalments of one month every year within three years at the Research Centre before the submission of the thesis.
Certificate of Attendance from the Head of the Research Centre is issued for the same.
Half yearly reports have to be submitted to the guide, that has to be sent to the Registrar through the Head of the Institution.
It is compulsorily to attend half yearly Research Scholars’ meeting held at the Centre.
GENERAL REQUIREMENT FOR ELIGIBILITY FOR Ph.D REGISTRATION
To be eligible for admission to the Ph.D programme, the candidate should have obtained a Master’s Degree in the relevant subject with at least an average of 55% of marks, and should have qualified in the Entrance Test (Details of the Test format is given below) conducted by the M.G. University or National Eligibility Test for Lectureship/JRF conducted by the U.G.C /C.S.I.R. or GATE or ICAR may apply for research leading to Ph.D Degree. Candidates with M. Phil Degree Qualifications recognized by the University and those who have qualified in the Kerala State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) are also exempted from the Entrance Test.
Not withstanding the above, candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes who have secured 45% marks in Science subject and 40% marks in Humanities and Language subject can apply for registration for Ph.D Research, provided they satisfy the other eligibility requirements stipulated as per the Notification.
Approved College/University teachers with 5 years of continuous teaching experience are exempted from the purview of the Aptitude Test/ Entrance Test. They can register for research even if they have only 50% marks at the qualifying degree examination.
Regular scientists in the service of recognized scientific research Centres, owned or funded by the Government and Officers in managerial positions with M.B.A or M.Tech qualifications serving in recognized companies of national/international standing shall also be eligible for exemption from the test provided they have 5 years of service and occupy positions not below the rank of a lecturer in the University Departments.
GUIDES
Vacancies available under the supervising teacher / research centre can be ascertained from the supervising teacher and the head of the research centre.
The maximum number of candidates whether PT / FT permitted to work under different categories of research guides is as follows:
Those guides in University Departments - 10 (2 candidates also if they come under the FIP, UGC, JRF or belong to SC/ST or are foreign nationals)
Those working in recognized research institutions - 10
Those working in recognized departments of affiliated colleges - 10
The supervising teacher shall not have under his/her supervision more than five candidates eligible for the JRF of the UGC - CSIR at any point of time. Candidates who apply for full time research shall select only those supervising teachers who are on the staff of the institution.
PART-TIME RESEARCH
Approved teachers of University Departments and affiliated colleges and other permanent employees engaged in research work in research institutions will be permitted to register as part time research scholars in the concerned subject, if they fulfil the eligibility requirements stipulated in the Rules and Regulations of Ph.D registration.
Teachers working in self-financing / unaided colleges run by the government and the University as well as Quasi Government and Private educational agencies, irrespective of the nature of their appointment and the length of their service (i.e, whether long term appointees or Guest/ ADHOC faculty), are permitted to pursue part-time research, provided they satisfy the other eligibility conditions for registration as research scholar. The guest faculty of affiliated colleges and the university departments can also register for part time research.
However, in exceptional cases, based on the recommendation of the Doctoral Committee, the Syndicate may allow other permanent employees not belonging to the above categories of employment i.e. regular employees working in Government/aided educational institutions or in institutions run by the University or regular employees of reputed institutions recognized by the Government to register as Part Time Research Scholar, taking into account their aptitude for Research as evidenced by their publications, experience and academic credentials.
HOW TO APPLY
Those who wish to register through the Centre for Doctoral Research, Rajagiri shall send application to the Registrar of M.G. University, through the Supervising Teacher and Head of the Institution (Principal).
The fees for registration is Rs. 500/- Applications and other details can be had from the store keeper (General), Mahatma Gandhi University directly on payment of Rs. 25/- or by post on request with sufficiently stamped self addressed envelope and a pay in slip for Rs. 25/ issued by the University Cash Counter / D.D. drawn in favour of the Finance Officer, M.G. University payable at S.B.T, P.D. Hills P.O., Kottayam. Those who are desirous of obtaining application by post shall apply sufficiently early.
Candidates who have passed the qualifying examinations from Universities outside the state should submit along with the application, eligibility certificate issued from this University. They must get matriculated before getting registration but only after selection by the Doctoral Committee. Application for matriculation and recognition should be sent separately to the Controller of Examinations through the Centre for Doctoral Research. The candidates from other Universities will have to get their T.C., Migration Certificate and other certificates sufficiently early to become eligible for registration.
The candidates may apply only if the vacancies exist under the Guide.
THE WRITTEN TEST
University Calls for Aptitude Test through all the editions of the esteemed dailies, in the month of September.
The objective of the examination is to test the candidate’s level of the subject discipline as well as his/her aptitude for research.
SCHEME FOR THE WRITTEN TEST
There are two parts for the test:
Part I dealing with the knowledge level of the Subject Discipline (50 marks = 5 x 10)
1. 16 short questions, out of which 10 may be answered.
2. Each answer should not exceed 100 words
3. All questions carry equal marks
Part II concerned with Research Aptitude in the Subject Discipline (50 marks = 25 x 2)

2. Answer should not exceed 500 words
